Kobe Bryant: 'Just believe in yourself!'
Kobe Bryant shows his hang time.

Prodigy Kobe on the rise

Believe the Kobe Bryant hype. He is one of the rare players in NBA history ever to be drafted without playing college basketball. Kobe has become one of the fans' favorites at the age of nineteen. His skills are phenomenon. He's got the quick first step that blows people away and the air time that leaves others looking in awe. He was once selected by USA Today and Parade Magazine as the National High School Player of the Year as a senior at Lower Merion High School. Kobe also won the Nestle Crunch Slam Dunk during the 1997 NBA All-Star Weekend in Cleveland and participated in the Schick Rookie Game, posting a rookie game record 31 points and 8 rebounds.

With his remarkable athleticism and an advanced understanding of the game, Kobe has developed himself to be one of the most significant Los Angeles Lakers. So far in his second NBA season, Kobe averages 17.7 points and 2.3 assists each game. One of Kobe Bryant's 1997-1998 NBA season highlights came on 12/17/97 when he scored 33 points against the Chicago Bulls. In addition, Kobe Bryant, the All-Star Game's youngest player ever, showed why he's been christened the "next Michael Jordan" with a Jordanesque performance in the 48th annual matchup of NBA stars. Paired against Jordan for most of his 22 minutes, Kobe had 18 points, six rebounds and two spectacular first-half dunks that dazzled the star-studded Madison Square Garden crowd. After the game, and for the umpteenth time this weekend, Kobe was asked if this year's All-Star Game was about a torch-passing from Jordan. "Not really," he said. "I looked at tonight as a learning experience. Come out, play hard, nothing less. Just acquire some more knowledge, not only from Mike, but from the other All-Stars." Kobe then added, "As far as carrying the torch for the years to come, I don't know. I just want to be the best basketball player that I can be. If that happens, that will be fine."

Keep an eye on Kobe Bryant in the future. He will be tomorrow's legend.
